8.75 Carat Cushion Cut Zambian Emerald and 2.53 CTW Natural Diamond Halo Ring in Platinum and 18ct Yellow Gold

This ring is extraordinary. A thing I sometimes ponder with jewellery, is if one was transported back in time and turned up at Hampton Court during the Tudor period, would a jewel be understood and coveted? A modern brilliant cut Diamond in platinum would be a marvel, but it might not be instantly recognisable as a diamond. The answer with this ring is a resounding yes, there is no point in history in which this massive green Emerald wouldn't be extremely desirable, and understood as exceptionally precious. Yellow Gold and Emeralds paired together do make for proper old fashioned jewels.

Despite being immense, and historic in scale and material, there is something so fresh and vivacious about this ring, the Emerald is luscously vibrant, and the Diamond weight is decadent, but the mixed metals are fun, and the shoulder setting is a bit like an octopuses tentacles. This ring is unique, and a non traditional take on a ring style you could imagine seeing on an old master painting of a Queen.

The Emerald is Zambian, Zambian Emeralds have been growing in cache since they were first discovered in 1920’s but it wasn't until the 80’s that they really begun their rise to prominence in earnest. A great Zambian rivals a Colombian for beauty, they are prized for their clarity and colour, and still remain more affordable, we expect Zambian Emeralds to continue to be more and more prized and become ever more sought after and valuable. Due to their high Iron content, Zambian Emeralds are harder on the Mohs scale than their Colombian counterparts at 7.5 - 8 compared to Colombians 7-7.5.

The magnificent cushion-cut Emerald weighs 8.75 carats and it’s glorious. The way it’s set in Platinum and 18ct Yellow Gold is a masterclass, the halo of mixed cut diamonds matches the huge Emerald sublimely. The Natural Diamonds have a total weight of 2.53 carats.
