Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions | Katherine James Jewellery

Sparkle without the stress! Here are the answers to the questions we get most often about our curated collection of modern, vintage, and antique fine jewellery, bespoke creations, and everything in between. Got something else on your mind? Just email info@kjj.co.uk—we're always happy to chat gems

1. Where are you based and can I visit in person?
We're tucked away in the historic heart of Hatton Garden, London, UK—the jewellery quarter where the magic happens.
We don't have a traditional shopfront (we're proudly online-first), but we do offer in-person appointments for viewing pieces, bespoke consultations, or trying on treasures. Contact us to arrange—Katherine and the team love meeting fellow jewellery lovers!

2. What kind of jewellery do you specialise in?
We curate and create modern, vintage, and antique fine jewellery with a serious passion for colour, rarity, and timeless elegance.
Think: trophy coloured gemstones (rubies, sapphires, aquamarines, emeralds), antique diamonds (old European cuts, romantic hand-cut glow), cocktail rings that stop conversations, heirloom engagement rings, statement earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. We also offer lab-grown diamonds for sustainable regal sparkle. Sustainability is core—many pieces reuse ethically sourced gems from estates.

3. Can I get a bespoke or custom piece made?
Absolutely—bespoke is our favourite!
Katherine and our London-based team of jewellers work directly with you to turn your vision into reality. From redesigning a family heirloom to creating a one-of-a-kind engagement ring with your dream gemstone, we handle everything. Start by emailing us photos, ideas, budget, or a vibe—we'll guide you through sketches, sourcing, and making it perfect.

4. Are your antique and vintage pieces authentic and ethically sourced?
Yes—100%.
Every antique/vintage piece is carefully sourced from trusted estates, dealers, and our long-standing network in Hatton Garden. We verify authenticity, condition, and history. All new Katherine James pieces are fully hallmarked by the London Assay Office (established 1327!). We prioritise ethical, conflict-free gems and love giving pre-loved stones new life.

5. What materials and gemstones do you use?
Only the best:
- Precious metals: 18ct gold (yellow, white, rose), platinum
- Gems: Natural coloured stones (trophy sapphires, rubies, emeralds, aquamarines, blue topaz, etc.), antique and modern diamonds, plus lab-grown diamonds for eco-conscious sparkle
All pieces are built to last generations—impeccable craftsmanship is non-negotiable.

6. How much do your pieces cost?
Our collection spans a wide range—from accessible everyday sparkle to red-carpet heirlooms.
Rings and earrings often start around £100–£5,000, while exceptional antique or bespoke pieces go higher. Browse our site for current pricing, or ask us for options in your budget—we're transparent and love finding the perfect fit.

7. What are your shipping and delivery options?
We offer free tracked and fully insured delivery within the UK.
International shipping is fast, tracked, and insured (costs vary by destination). All parcels are beautifully packaged (think ribbons and little surprises). Delivery times: usually 2–5 days UK, 5–10 days worldwide. Note: Buyer responsible for any local import duties/taxes.

8. What is your returns or exchange policy?
We want you to adore your piece forever—but if it's not quite right, you're covered.
We accept returns or exchanges within 14 days (unworn, in original condition). Vintage/antique pieces may have special terms due to rarity—get in touch and we'll sort it with care. Full details on our Refund Policy page.

9. How do I care for antique or coloured gem jewellery?
Gentle love keeps the sparkle:
- Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush (avoid harsh chemicals)
- Store separately to prevent scratches
- Remove for swimming, sports, or heavy chores
- Bring in for professional cleaning/check-ups—we're happy to help
Antique pieces especially benefit from occasional ultrasonic baths (we can advise per item).

10. How can I contact you for more questions or advice?
