1.25 Carat Vintage Cushion Cut Alexandrite and Diamond Ring in 18ct Yellow Gold

This vintage ring is an absolute stunner! It features a 1.25 carat cushion-cut  Alexandrite, surrounded by 0.40 total carats of Diamonds, all set in gorgeous, heavy 18ct Yellow Gold.

This is a big and impressive ring that has lived multiple lives! The Alexandrite is milligrain set, and it looks like it’s come from an old piece of jewellery. The heavy 18ct Gold bands that wrap around the stones are later additions, and I think the trillion cut Diamonds were added at the same time. It’s a bit of a marriage, but it works and it’s a match made in heaven. The incredibly precious Alexandrite is very protected by the Gold bezel and it sits safely nestled within the heavy bands.

The Alexandrite is exceptionally clean and bright. Alexandrite is a highly rare colour-change gem that was originally mined in Russia. This one tips from apple green in daylight to a purple-violet colour in incandescent light. I’ve been having a bit of fun trying to capture the colour change. This is a ring that you’d want to wear to a summer party in a garden that starts in the day, when you’ll have a lovely fresh green ring, and when the torches are lit as the sun sets, it will turn sultry and purple.
