A modern brilliant cut Diamond in platinum would be a marvel, but it might not be instantly recognisable as a diamond. The answer with this ring is a resounding yes, there is no point in history in which this heart shaped green Emerald wouldn't be extremely desirable, and understood as exceptionally romantic and precious.
Yellow Gold and Emeralds paired together do make for proper old fashioned jewels.
